Co-operation is for most of us essential to our survival, and almost all people practice it, in one form or another, in their everyday lives. However, co-operation needs to become the basis of organizing a much greater part of our economy and for our relationship with the state and its institutions.

If we are to ever convince the wider public of the true value of co-operation then we must first be able to demonstrate that the co-operative and mutual enterprises actually help to improve peoples' lives. When this happens people will both benefit from economic co-operation and begin to understand the value of securing a much wider application of co-operation in many more aspects of their lives.

For any movement for social change to become successful it is essential that it sets out most clearly what are the outcomes that it wants to achieve. People need to know not only what the movement stands for but what it actually wants change, and these two things must be constantly communicated widely.
